Job Posting: TECHCORPShack Instructor


Position Summary

Part-time/Temporary position responsible for providing support and facilitating the content delivery portion of the program. TECHCORPShack is a 1.5-day event that gives students the opportunity to learn about computer science in a fun, engaging and inclusive environment. Over the course of the experience, students will learn how to utilize MIT App Inventor to explore the world of mobile app development and create an app that tackles a real-world need or problem. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet and work with other coders, technology leaders and advocates from their community. The 2019 TECHCORPShack, supported by the AT&T Foundation, will engage 200 high school students in four of AT&T's markets: Akron (25 students), Columbus (75 students), Dayton (75 students) and Zanesville (25 students). There will be two instructors for each cohort of 25 students.

Dates:     November 8th & 9th
Times:     Friday, 6:00p-9:00pm AND Saturday, 9am-4pm
Locations:     Columbus (Capital University) and Zanesville (Zane State College)
Salary:     $500 for both days

Locations:     Dayton (Sinclair Community College) & Akron (University of Akron)
Salary:     $500 for both days


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Attend training session prior to program start date
  • Familiarize and become an expert on program tools (software & hardware)
  • Review lessons/activities prior to program camp and have full understanding of the curriculum in relation to students
  • Have the ability to explain complex ideas to students in a language they can relate to and understand
  • Create a safe classroom environment conducive to cooperative and hands-on learning
  • Assist students with the successful completion of lessons/activities and evaluation
  • Provide feedback on the students’ experience with the overall program
  • Provide TECH CORPS staff with all program and evaluation data as requested
  • Perform other duties as needed for the successful implementation of the program


  • Experience or familiarity with programming and app development (Object-oriented)
  • Experience or familiarity with open source software, including image, audio, video manipulation and programming environments (i.e. MIT App Inventor).
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree preferred but not required
  • Passion (for the mission of the organization), Creativity and Initiative
  • Possess basic knowledge and/or have experience leading, coaching, or teaching groups
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban students is a plus
